“…the moral test of government is how it treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; those who are in the shadows of life; the sick, the needy and the handicapped. ”
I couldn’t agree more. And I also believe that by this test, Alabama is failing. Our community hospitals continue to operate in the red and too many have closed their doors forever. Our emergency rooms are filled to overflowing. And those, like the elderly, who depend on Medicaid, live in uncertainty. Believe me when I say that it does not have to be this way. And that our current lawmakers have created this crisis, just as they have so many others, by playing politics with our lives. Shouldn’t our parents and grandparents, who gave so much to us in the Spring of their lives, be given proper healthcare in in their Autumn and Winter? Properly funding Medicaid will be a top priority for me when I am governor. My mama and daddy, God rest their sweet souls, would expect me to do nothing less.
